The visitor can meet one of the oldest mansions of Kastoria, in Byzantiou Street, a small cobbled road in the area of Doltcho. The Bassara mansion consists of ground floor, mezzanine and first floor. It was built in the 18th century by Mr. Michalis, a merchant from Constantinople. On the floor plan it is an elongated rectangle divided internally by a wall parallel to its long dimension into two sections. The northern one is occupied by a single narrow long space towards the courtyard.
On the ground floor the entrance both from the street (one door) and from the courtyard (2 doors) is through the single oblong space, paved with great care according to the custom of Kastoria, with roughly rectangular slabs and a circular navel centrally placed. In the same space, which plays the role of an enclosed courtyard, is the staircase to the above floors. The remaining half is divided into two large spaces, now independent, but communicating with each other originally and used as cellars.
