The mansion can be admired in Vitsiou Street, opposite the church of Agios Panteleimon. It is believed to be the house where an important Greek scholar and poet, Athanasios Christopoulos, lived. Christopoulos was born in Kastoria in May 1772 and died in Bucharest in January 1847. He is considered by many to be the ‘forerunner’ of Greek poetry in the demotic language, because he opened up new poetic paths through the use of the demotic language. He is also known for his contribution to the Filiki Eteria (Society of Friends).
The mansion is located on a sloping ground and its construction dates back to the mid-18th century. It belongs to the first type of architectural construction. Recently, following the efforts of local stakeholders, it has been included in a programme to finance its conservation in order to preserve and enhance its historical value.
