Community Carnival

Carnival customs in the Municipality of Kastoria with deep roots that incorporate elements of local tradition are the Carnivals of the local Communities of:

• Kleisoura – January 1^st
• Korissos – January 2^nd
• Lithia – January 2^nd
• Mavrochori – January2^nd
• Tichio January 7^th
• Mesopotamia – on Sunday of Apokria (Carnival).

The main element is tradition, enthusiasm, satire and a welcoming mood.
A special carnival custom is the “Argkoutsaria” – the Carnival of Kleisoura – with the musical revival of the custom and the excellent aesthetic traditional appearance of the carnivalists. The sound of the zurna and the davul that accompany the masked carnivalists, the dances, the location and the inhabitants, have been keeping the rules of the custom for years.
