At 12 Kapetan Lazou Street, in the traditional district of Doltcho, is the mansion where the Folklore Museum of Kastoria is housed and which in the past had access to the lake. The mansion of Neratzi Aivazi, built in the 17th century, is managed by the Music and Philological Association “Armonia”. It represents the type of the Kastorian mansion and the exhibits were placed in their natural position, so that we have the image of an old mansion with its functional elements and the visitor can form a picture of the life of a noble family of that era, in all phases of their life, such as at work, at rest, at social events, etc.
Opening the door of the mansion we find ourselves in front of the paved courtyard. The rooms on the ground floor are the wine cellar, the food cellar, the backyard, the kneading room, the door leading to the courtyard (an external area of the mansion that communicated with the lake) and the two wooden staircases leading to the mezzanine.
The mezzanine is divided into two sections. The western one, with the summer room, and the eastern one with the daily winter room and its attic. There is also the fur workshop with various types of fur art and the first fur machine from 1884. The ceiling and wooden surfaces have painted decoration by folk painters.
Going upstairs we find the doxato where the official ceremonies of weddings, festivals, etc. took place. Two rows of windows and skylights ensure lighting, ventilation and views to the south, west and east. The areas of social events present a functional unity. The lords are honoured in the bed, the ladies in the “kalon onda” (formal reception area) and the popular class in the doxato, while the girls watch the movement and dances of the doxato from the arched window of the gallery. Among the objects found in the room the following stand out: dowry bills, study reports, photographs, the first photograph of Kastoria, a mirror, trunks, two ivory trunks, the third carved, two despotic thrones, two violins, two photographs of Kastoria in 1909, a stained glass window and various seals. The painted decoration is fancy and covers all the surfaces of the ceiling, walls and windows.
